Our Story & Our Why

myRomy was born out of a deep understanding of the challenges that families and childcare providers face in navigating the complex process of nanny-finding and matching. As a Calgary-based family business, we know firsthand the urgent and ever-changing needs of families when it comes to childcare, which is why we prioritize establishing trust and compatibility in our matching process.

We wanted to create a platform that would facilitate meaningful connections, enabling families to find caregivers who truly fit their specific needs and schedules. At the same time, we wanted to empower nannies by providing them with a platform to showcase who they are, feel supported by a community and ultimately grow professionally.

With myRomy, we have combined these goals to create a seamless, rewarding childcare experience for both families and nannies.

Founders

Aleena Lalani

Meet Aleena, our warm-hearted marketing and strategy expert with a passion for creating meaningful experiences. Born in Vancouver, Aleena has had an extraordinary journey. She's lived in East Africa, Europe, and North America, and has mastered five languages along the way. Aleena's multicultural background has given her unique insights into communication, leadership, and teamwork. This makes her an invaluable asset to myRomy. With an MBA from The George Washington University, Aleena has a strong foundation in market research and strategic communication. Her people-first approach is evident in her ability to build lasting relationships. Aleena is a dedicated wife and mother of three. She draws inspiration from her two relentless, resilient, strong-minded grandmothers who taught her that women can create positive change in the world.

Mini Wheats, the perfect combo of sweet icing and hearty wheats never fails to bring a beaming smile to my face especially when enjoyed as a pseudo dessert after dinner!

Samir Lalani

Samir is our determined co-founder with a heart for family and a love for learning. A proud Calgary native, Samir ventured to New York to study podiatric medicine. He then completed his residency in Virginia and DC. Samir's diverse professional background includes founding a successful foot & ankle clinic in Calgary. He went on to co-found a tech start-up in 2020. Samir's passion for continuous learning led him to earn an EMBA in 2022. With a keen interest in personal growth and development, he brings enthusiasm and drive to the myRomy team. As a loving father of three, Samir's dedication to family shines through in everything he does. He is an integral part of our mission to create meaningful family and nanny connections.

Favourite cereal:

As a health conscious individual I like to have to double up on the fruit at breakfast. Froot Loops or Fruity Pebbles did the Trix (pun intended) - the more artificial colour and flavour, the better the guilty indulgence!

Tomiisin Adeniran

Tomiisin, is our empathetic and creative strategist with a remarkable ability to uncover meaningful perspectives. Driven by his deep interests in culture, leadership, and business, he successfully earned his Master's degree in International Business from Queen's University. During his academic journey, he cultivated a strong dedication to developing impactful solutions through the lens of human-centred design. Originally from Nigeria, Tomiisin is the eldest of five siblings and was raised with the values of kindness, hard work, and integrity. These values resonate deeply with him and serve as a foundation of his approach. Tomiisin brings these cherished values to the heart of our business. With a professional background in the marketing & strategy space, his mission is to make a meaningful impact by creating a community of families and nannies united and enriched by their connections on our platform.
